Bharat bandh:
The trade union wings of all major parties, including the Congress, have planned yet another Bharat bandh on September 7 to protest spiralling prices.
At a meeting of the major TUs here on Thursday, it was decided that a 24-hour bandh would be organised all over the country crippling crucial sectors like telecom, banking, transport and mining.
Among the significant events happening during this week are a nation wide strike by public Sector Bank employees, a rally by Rahul Gandhi and the festival of Eid. Apart from these there are others too scheduled to take place during the same week.
On Tuesday, 7th September, the employees of public sector banks shall hold a strike against the govt measures to welcome more private companies into the banking sector.

Defence scientists created a world record on Sunday by flight testing the supersonic cruise missile BrahMos off the Orissa coast.
It was for the first time that a cruise missile was tested at supersonic speeds in a steep-dive mode. The missile was test-fired from the integrated test rang launching complex-3 (LC-3) at Chandipur around 11.35 am.
Defence sources said the missile was tested by the armed forces from a mobile autonomous launcher. “The missile took off successfully and hit the desired target, meeting all mission parameters. It was a fantastic launch; a 100% success,” said ITR director S P Dash.

A scientist, who witnessed the test, said the advanced version of BrahMos Block-II was test fired this time. “The missile flew in the designated complex trajectory including large manoeuvres and steep dive. This is the first time that a supersonic dive has been realised by a cruise missile,” he said.

Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET) is the first step in the process of admission to the TWO YEAR FULL TIME Postgraduate Degree Programmes in Management offered by the IITs. Currently IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, and IIT Roorkee offer Programmes in Management.
JMET is only a qualifying examination. Candidates have to apply separately to the Institutes of their choice. They are also advised to look up the admission details provided in the respective websites of the participating Institutes. There is no limit to the number of programmes a candidate can apply to, so long as he or she meets the eligibility criteria.
JMET 2011 would be conducted on 12th December, 2010 between 10:00 hrs to 13:00 hrs.

Buoyed up by the ‘success’ of the 12-hour strike earlier this month, the trade union wings of all major parties, including the Congress, have planned yet another Bharat bandh on September 7 to protest spiralling prices.
At a meeting of the major TUs here on Thursday, it was decided that a 24-hour bandh would be organised all over the country crippling crucial sectors like telecom, banking, transport and mining.
A new feature of the September strike, according to TU sources, would be the participation of the Congress-affiliated INTUC. INTUC chief and a Congress MP D Sanjeeva Reddy has been appointed convener for the TU council spearheading the strike effort.
AITUC leader and CPI MP Gurudas Dasgupta said, “I hope Reddy will fight our battle within Congress as well.”
The other issues the strike will focus on are the government’s `flawed’ economic policy, disinvestment in the PSUs and the `unkept promise’ of a welfare scheme for the unorganised sector.
